I decided to visit Rockefeller Center, home to my favorite skyscraper and what is arguably the best privately-owned public space in the country, but, as luck would have it, it turned out to be the night they were lighting the Christmas tree. After battling the crowds for a few minutes—I was trying to get into the main plaza area while everyone else was trying to get out—I decided it would be better to come back some other time.
