It's difficult to describe many individuals' initial reactions to Michigan Central. Most know beforehand that they're going to see an abandoned railroad station, but few ever seem to be completely ready for the sheer size, beauty or devastation of the place. I remember catching my breath for a few moments when I first laid eyes upon it four years ago. Sarah seemed to have a similar reaction, commenting how beautiful it was and expressing near-disbelief that anyone would ever abandon such a building. During the trip back in '99 I wanted to go and explore the then-unprotected complex, but the friends I was traveling with weren't big on that idea, so I didn't. The opportunity to do some urban exploration at Michigan Central is gone now, but, considering the circumstances, I'm happy to see that.
